How to Get a Free Credit Report

free credit reports

Good news! Ever since the federal government passed the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) in 2003, the 3 major credit reporting agencies are now required to provide, upon request, a free credit report every twelve months to every consumer. The goal is to provide you with the ability to verify and correct information in your credit reports and guard against identity theft.

You can request your free reports any one of 3 ways–online, by phone or by mail.

  • Free Credit Reports Online: AnnualCreditReport.com
  • Free Credit Reports by Phone: 1-877-322-8228
  • Free Credit Reports by Mail:

Fill out: the Annual Credit Report Request form
Mail it to:
Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281,
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.

No matter how you request your report, you can request all three reports at once or order one report at a time. If you request the reports separately, you can monitor your credit more frequently throughout the year.
